Should the UK be declared inactive: UK OGN letter & OGP response letter

Hi all

Hope you are well.

I am writing to share two letters.

First, the UK OGN C&S Letter.pdf (154.7 KB) that was co-created with civil society members with regards to the UK’s status in light of failing to meet OGP criteria when developing a National Action Plan (NAP) for a third successive time. Thanks to all of those who contributed.

The letter contained the following:

Within six months (before mid-April 2023) the UK government must, as part of the NAP process:

  • Convene a working group of civil society organisations and government officials to advance work on improving public standards and accountability as per the civil society request for the current NAP.
  • Rebuild trust between civil society and government through a significant public statement (or other action) emphasising commitment to the NAP process.
  • Publish a 12-month timetable of multi-stakeholder meetings focussing on implementation.

Failure to meet these criteria should see the UK government asked to leave the OGP Steering Committee in addition to being designated ‘inactive.’

Second, the Response to UK CSO Network Letter from October 2022.pdf (466.7 KB) from the Open Government Partnership. It explains that different processes will be used to determine the UK’s status (whether inactive or not) and its membership of the OGP Steering Committee. It also explains that the Criteria & Standards Subcommittee will reconvene in December with the aim of making recommendations and that the UK government will be asked to provide a status update prior.

Best wishes,

Kevin

Hello Kevin

Thank you for that I will copy you into overtures being made to The Police, Crime Commissioner in Staffordshire by members of the public badly affected by Environmental Crime.
