"Renew the UK Open Government Network" - Call for EU Horizon consortium

Hi Janos,

Hopefully you’ll still be around. We’ve had a problem up to now due the reply button being switched off. But Neisha has help to fix that so maybe we can attempt to pick this up before the call at the EU ends.

We are sooo on the same frequency with the open research > open gov. It’s probably easier to see if we consider the open gov part being a subset of open research. That’s primarily because the open research guys will include the network managers who tie together the big EU “flagship” projects. This is their euro hub. And this is a Flagship.

These guys have already invented lots of (open source) tools which few in govland will be aware of, even though most functionarios who have been to a uni, have already used some of the tools. The difference in principle being that researchers “share” their global tools while in National govland, they are still “delivering”, using different tools, at a different time, in a different place, and logging on to each with a different ID and password.

Let me offer this illustration of what i mean, so no one can say “Ï don’t get it.” Top right, Hit Log In. Choose a language. Choose an Identity Provider. This could be either the uni where you have an institutional account or, because this is a demo of the most open approach to sharing an app, could be your usual social media account. You go through the usual process of using your IDP(rovider), to log onto, and share, the geant wiki.

So that’s the Identity model which we need to get on the radar in govland. Do a search on Federated Identity if you want some more insight. "edugain" is the one you’ve just experienced.

OK. Enough of the geek stuff for now. I’m just flagging where the join between opengov and open research (and education) services come together, so far as network engineers are concerned. e.g. We could share these forums, and any other app, with various levels of network security, if we each had an ID provided by government institutions who had some common policies, standards and protocols in place. So we need to try and broker a relationship between the publicly minded in both camps. (and there’s lots going on now, e.g. )

Also. Calum is starting to do a little community building around the idea of a True English Devolution. Seems kinda strange to these old media eyes when the scots seem to have it covered, in the UK world at least. Calum wants us to use email. How quaint.

BTW. Neisha pointed out to me that they (The Scots) are members of a Nordic + group.. Nicely buried in the OGP site, like most other inter-country OGP groups. So the progressives, who don’t suffer the arrogance and stupidities of a Westminster system, are moving rapidly down converging tracks.

Enough for now. Come back please. Love the graphics.
