Making an impact: How 'Measuring up' is driving action

Dear colleagues,

The report Measuring up includes the chapter on SDG16 relating to peace, justice and strong institutions (and indicators relating to open government pillars) which was drafted by myself with your input earlier this year. Thought it would be nice to share recent news…

Number 10 confirms Measuring up to be considered for the UK’s Voluntary National Review on the SDGs next year

Last week we received a letter from the Prime Minister’s Assistant Private Secretary acknowledging our request for a response to Measuring up. The letter confirmed that the Government will soon invite inputs from organisations ‘to capture the contributions being made on this agenda’ as they progress their plans for the Voluntary National Review (VNR). It also confirmed that Measuring up would be considered as part of this.

We’ve been progressing our conversations with the Government as some of the chapter authors took part in a meeting with DFID to explore their VNR process. You can find out more about the meeting below.

Thanks for this update, Andreas.

Scotland’s SDG Network found the UKSSD’s ‘Measuring Up’ report extremely valuable and I can see it has sparked real interest across civil society in both Scotland and Wales. It really has set the foundations for greater civil society voice in monitoring and reporting on SDG progress in the UK and has helped us as a Network make links with those active in London.

You might be interested in the SDG Network’s recent briefing on Scotland’s engagement in the 2019 UK Voluntary National Review of SDGs, which was collaboratively developed by our members and sent to DfID this week. In it, we mentioned the UK Government’s commitment to open government.

Thanks
Paul
