Finding the Missing Million$
A workshop on using extractive payment and revenue data to promote accountability
Wednesday 18 September, London
Publish What You Pay UK and Global Witness invite you to a practical interactive workshop for civil society and journalists on using extractive payment and revenue data to promote government and corporate accountability.
The UK, other EU, Canadian and Norwegian oil, gas and mining companies are now disclosing their payments to governments across the world on a project-by-project basis. These payments amount to hundreds of billions of dollars and are a key source of producer government revenue. Yet too often the money gets diverted into private pockets or otherwise mismanaged instead of benefiting citizens and communities in resource-producing countries.
This workshop will explore practical ways of accessing and using extractive industry payments to governments data to follow the money and make governments and companies more accountable.
Time: 12.30 pm to 5.00 pm with sandwich lunch and breaks
Venue: Global Witness, 1 Mark Square, London EC2A 4EG, with remote participation via web video link
The workshop is based on Finding the Mission Millions, Global Witness and Resources for Development Consulting’s handbook for using extractive companies’ revenue disclosures to hold governments and industry to account. It will feature sessions led by Global Witness, by NRGI on its www.resourceprojects.org mandatory disclosures data platform and by Jaqueline Terrel of the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining on base erosion and profit shifting (BEPS) in mining.
