Hi Simon
How can we work together on this topic?
In Hungary urgently need a kind of simple to learn community process for a new national wide community which have already thousands of local groups but cannot organise they work in one system.
We need this as soon as possible as need to be ready for the Marc of 2026 national election
My Dear Janos,
A Happier New Year to you and everyone. Excuse the delay. Ive been standing back from last year’s attempts at progress and thinking.
How to approach the common problems democratic movements have today. The primary symptom? A lack of trust in most National governments and its/their public institutions. Funny. in the OECD 2023 survey, the British have less trust in their National government than Hungarians.
Let me pose what I see as the core symptom of this lack of trust. Here’s one practical piece of evidence which I could repeat a thousand times in 7 (google translated) languages. One Hungarian perspective says its this, “state advertising is being channelled to pro-government (media) outlets”.
Distrust has been created by* the change in media*. Tim Berners Lee’s invention has enabled citizens to see inside the working of their public institutions, each delivering a special service - “… duly processed and fabricated, homogenized and equalized, in the precise quantities that the system, rather than the person, requires”.
Unfortunately we can’t do a damn thing about . Its the same in every country.
I know that your idea of “a kind of simple-to-learn community process for a new nation” is what every honest bureaucrat would like to encourage. Three problems.
- We/they haven’t agreed on/co-designed “the right” online collaboration tools to be shared. Its the same everywhere. Check out the these EC’s departments. This is the one that funded the OGP for $3M. This is the EC’s Joint Research Centre. Just embarrassing.
- Public employees are not very good at (online) moderation or outreach. Moderation is how bad behaviour gets constrained, norms get set, and disputes get resolved. It 's an art. Hard to teach. Easy to learn when you have an example to follow.
- People have become so disillusioned with getting any response from a government department/parliament that they just observe. e,g, We’ve seen the life squeezed out of this forum in order to “make it safe”. That’s an indication of the UK cultural cringe. Cultures are hard to change. That requires acceptance of people who are “weird”.
Weirdos must keep on repeating to global civil organisations’ bureaucrats that they must collaborate, rather than reporting what fragmented hundreds of CSO’s are doing in isolation. The only way forward is for then to spend more time co-designing a project that has then working together. But who has the time?
Its not hard to do. Every domain’s categorised articles must point to/scrape a shared forum where they can be discussed by people with common interests and expertise. Alternately, as bureaucracies gain experience with tools like Wiki(pedia) and Confluence, they will learn/understand how modern media is shared, not promoted. (as the commercial world of media already knows)
Janos, I’ll point you at a list of projects that are run in the Hungarian R&E network. All the “change the media” activity - particularly citizens privacy and security concerns -have already been addressed in the R&E networks. The approach? We are attempting to improve (online) education and learning, This is about engineering learning tools. No politics please.
Lastly, as the profession of community moderation seems to be stillborn in .gov domains, globally, I’ll point at this article about composable moderation. Hopefully, we are not writing a pre-mortem for this forum/this tool. We are just getting around to identifying/co-designing which network/media technologies will serve the social good rather trying to regulate the commercial ones.
We already know we are embedding the co-design/ co-production in (Local, National, Global) GROUPS of interest and expertise. That’s obvious. Now we have to figure out which combination of tools offer the most utility to the most citizens.
Its going to be an interesting 2025. With Trump around, it already is.
Well, here is a “simple Pilot” community platform system functionally illustrate design outline for the community:
UNA Platform as a community framework - BASE, already exists and can be used - UNA Features - The Best Community Software Platform
BOLT + WebSim project for developing the UNA Platform FUNCTIONS (modules, plugins)
Until the rise of the AI in public I found some promising projekts :
Knowledge Base System - Knowledge Base Grahp System + AI + Semantic Ontology - integrated into the UNA Social system - sample UI - Visualisation sample : http://histograph.eu/
social Network adaptation: https://hyperknowledge.org/
AI for the commons:
Fabric is an open-source framework for augmenting humans using AI. It provides a modular framework for solving specific problems using a crowdsourced set of AI prompts that can be used anywhere.
Hi
Here is my a bit big of challenge or provocation can serve as a catalyst to reignite discussion and engagement.
Draft sample Concept of the solution:
Unite the kind of Citizens UK and Open Government Network local and national with support of the modern technologies to bridge the offline and the online world in the following topics of Embedding co-production, citizen development, social innovation with open source and transparency into our society.
Challenge or provocation:
Particularly around topics like bring back Hungary into the OGP network with your OGN UK community of collective help a new and already after a year grown to BIG bottom up democratic political movement in Hungary. Around two thousands small local teams nationalwide The Tisza Sziget (Tisza islands moovement) of Tisza political party. ( Tisza is a river in hungary )
Hungary withdraws in 2016 by the present kleptomaniac Orban government after the OGP report.
I startted this forum topic nearly two years ago with a big hope will be production ready the solution when comes the time and needs are recognised.
Well the time is here!
The Hungarian people waked up from 15 years of hopeless letargy and hand in hand gives power to a new political movement to build a real chance to change the resim.
But they don’t know how to work effectively together.
We need this as soon as possible as need to be ready for the Marc of 2026 national election.
Now about the WHY needs help HUNGARY:
As you well know your focus area is not so widely introduced in our society and all bottom up communities use different methods and frameworks.
Hungary is facing a crucial period and society is preparing to come together in a unique way to take control of its future,
something it has never done before because it could not learn how to cooperate with others for the common good under communism.
After the system change there was only twenty years to learn freedom but many social and economical problems diverted the people’s focus on survival.
2010 and the FIDESZ brings a new period for Hungarian society.
They are step by step legally abusing the possibilities of the rule of law to privatize public property for free and steal billions of EU euros to enrich a narrow circle of party elite Victor Orban’s family and friends. Also with the same slow process they change the rules of national election and get control of the state and local media and limit the civil movement’s life. Everyone can risk the job if simpatisan of the opposite party.
In Hungary there is the new Tisza Party which is growing the new political movement called Tisza Islands.
Each Tisza Island can have only 50 local members and there are more than thousands Tisza Island established nationwide already.
These local communities need a process to work together with self organisation and self improvement for their common targets. They have to teach each other to learn the civic lifestyle in a new democracy.
Let’s come together and help each other for the common good.
Janos
