# Urgent statement from PWYP GC & EITI civil society Board members on civic space in Iraq, Kazakhstan, Honduras & other countries

Today the Publish What You Pay [Global Council](https://www.pwyp.org/about/structure/) and all civil society members of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative ([EITI) international board](https://eiti.org/about/board) have issued an [urgent joint statement](https://www.pwyp.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/PWYP_GC __EITI_Board_members_statement__ Jan21.pdf) responding to the denial of civil society participation rights in **Iraq** and to intimidation of and attacks on civil society organisations in **Kazakhstan** , **Honduras** and other countries where natural resource governance issues are contested. **We call on the international community, including the EITI, governments, intergovernmental organisations and international donors, to pay close attention to the state of civic space, particularly in resource-rich countries, and to ensure civil society concerns are heard and responded to.**
